Healthcare doesn’t have to cost the earth. By shifting care from hospital to home, we’re proving that prevention-led healthcare can be good for people and for the planet. As new expert analysis shows, not only have we saved the NHS and Government £1 billion to date – we’re also driving down carbon emissions by preventing health risks and reducing hospitalisations. - Cera's prevention-led model of homecare is 15 times more carbon friendly than hospital care. - By keeping older and vulnerable people safe and well at home, we're saving 3,335 tonnes of CO2 annually, which is the equivalent to 1,700 acres of woodland. Prevention means fewer hospitalisations, falls avoided, billions saved for the NHS and Government...and a greener future.
Great to see our Founder & CEO Dr. Ben Maruthappu featured in Founders Forum Group’s Meet the Founder series. From the challenging personal experience that inspired Cera, to the problems we are trying to solve and the impact we are now making – it’s great to look back over the past years and reflect on what we’ve achieved. - 10,000+ carers and nurses delivering 30 million home visits every year - £1 billion saved for the NHS and Government - 15× lower carbon footprint than hospital care - Falls & hospitalisations prevented – transforming lifespan & healthspan for vulnerable & older people across the UK and beyond Thanks to the hard work of our 10,000 staff, we’re showing how innovation and social impact can go hand in hand – and how mission-led British companies can lead globally.
It’s Black History Month – and at Cera, we’re honouring the contribution, heritage and culture of Black communities across our workforce. This celebration is an opportunity to highlight the huge impact Black communities have had on health and social care, past and present. Across England, 18% of the adult social care workforce are Black, African, Caribbean or Black British – more than four times the national average. The dedication and compassion of these communities form the backbone of our sector and the care we deliver every day. That diversity is also reflected within our own teams, with 26% of new frontline hires identifying as Black or Black British. Representation matters, and at Cera, we work hard to build an inclusive culture where everyone can thrive. We stand together in recognition and respect for the contributions that people of all backgrounds, cultures and ethnicities make to our sector – today and every day. As is now traditional, our teams came together to mark Black History Month through the celebration of food from different cultures.
Fantastic to hear our Founder & CEO, Dr. Ben Maruthappu, on BBC Radio 4’s PM show with Evan Davis – joined by one of Cera’s carers, Maureen, and Des, whose care she provides. Des shared how Cera’s tools are “life-changing and life-saving”, while Maureen explained how our tools help to deliver the best care possible for all the people she cares for – improving health outcomes and keeping older and vulnerable people out of hospital. As highlighted by Ben, AI is what makes this kind of impact possible. Cera’s AI tools, used by our 10,000 carers and nurses at each home visit, empower them to take action and help prevent health deteriorations before they happen. With tech-enabled, prevention-led care, we are transforming the lives of tens of thousands of older and vulnerable people, as well as saving £1.5 million daily for the NHS and Government.
Cera has reached a landmark moment in our mission to empower people to live longer, better lives at home. We’re thrilled to share that we’ve now saved the NHS & Government more than £1 billion to date – realising a long-held ambition for Cera, and one that we share with many other UK HealthTechs. £1 billion could make a real difference to lives across the UK: funding the salaries of more than 𝟮𝟱,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗻𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘀 for a year, paying for 𝟰𝟬 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗚𝗣 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀, or building a number of new hospitals, at a time when every pound counts. This marks a major milestone, not just for Cera, but for the whole HealthTech sector – demonstrating the scale of what’s possible through technology and innovation, and the difference we can make to public services. We look forward to seeing many more HealthTechs break similar boundaries. Our incredible frontline and support teams across Cera make this impact possible. Their work shows the power of prevention in action – healthier, stronger communities, and savings that can be reinvested into the NHS and patient care.

We're grateful for dedicated individuals like Rita, and for all our thousands of carers and nurses who make a difference every day. Join Cera and start your meaningful journey in care today!

This year’s theme for World Humanitarian Day highlighted the importance of empowering local communities. At Cera, we see this every day. Our 10,000 carers and nurses deliver tech-enabled, prevention-led care in communities across the UK – helping people stay safe and well at home, while easing NHS pressures. Through our Back to Work initiative, we’ve supported thousands of economically inactive and unemployed people into meaningful careers in care – equipping them with digital skills, inclusive training, and the confidence to thrive. In the past year alone, 28% of our new recruits were previously unemployed, and double the industry average live with a disability. Each number represents someone gaining stability, skills, and a new future in care. From preventing avoidable hospitalisations to building local skills and employment, our model of care strengthens communities from within – ensuring no one is left behind.

If you're looking for a role where you can make a real difference in people's lives every day, then care might be for you! In our latest blog post we answer the question: Do I really need a degree for a career in social care?
