#OpeningUp #LGBTHistoryMonth #LGBTHM21 Q: Hi Tommy, thanks for taking the time to speak to us. Can you briefly sum up what LGBT History Month is? A: It is a month dedicated to observing and discussing the history of LGBT rights and movements. Q: Why is it important to the LGBT community? A: After years of progress, we have accomplished much with LGBT rights, but it’s important to remember how hard-fought everything is, and that it can always change. Q: What does LGBT History Month mean to you? A: Similar to civil rights, it is a living monument to how difficult, important and precious equality is for all. Want to find out more? #OpeningUp #LGBTHistoryMonth #LGBTHM21 Q: Hi Alex, thanks for taking the time to open up to us. First, can you sum up what LGBT History Month is? A: LGBT History Month is really an opportunity to raise awareness of prejudice against LGBT people as well as combating it. It’s also celebrating the diversity within the community, celebrating the achievements of their battles and making the community itself more visible. Q: What does LGBT History Month mean to you? A: For me as an ally, this month is important because I feel like it puts the injustices and problems we still struggle with into the spotlight. It is not about ‘indoctrinating’ the public to become a member of the LGBT community, but to make everyone more aware about how hard it is for LGBT people to be themselves because of all the injustices and repercussions that come from that. #OpeningUp #LGBTHistoryMonth #LGBTHM21 Q: Hey Mikaela, thanks for taking the time to open to us. What does LGBT History Month mean to you? A: A chance to continue to stand up for our community and work together with our allies. While we’ve come a long way, there is still much to be done around discrimination, prejudice and ignorance in many countries and workplaces. We can learn, educate and encourage understanding and acceptance together with our allies ,and pave the way to continue equality for all. Q: Do you think we need to do more to talk about LGBT history and why? A: Absolutely, it is also a chance to help the new, younger LGBT generation be inspired to do the same for generations to come. I have been on my own journey and knowing this type of awareness month helped me when I was growing up and finding out who I was. It’s okay to ask questions and learn, it is not okay to stand by and do nothing. Want to find out more? Read our blog below:
