In honor of #VeteransDay, we celebrate the journey of Douglas Northrup, a US Army veteran and Senior Manager of Networking at The Friedkin Group. Douglas wanted more for his family than his small town with few opportunities could offer. He enlisted in 1989, and his Army service took him from Desert Storm as a Cavalry Scout in Iraq to networking in Germany, handling communications for former President Bill Clinton's second inauguration, and overseeing military district networks in Washington, D.C. His service ignited a lifelong passion for technology and paved the way for his civilian career in networking. The values Douglas learned in the Army--leadership, loyalty, calm under pressure, and the drive to keep learning--have been invaluable. Today, he leads a team (including fellow veterans) at TFG, where the camaraderie and family-like culture echo the bonds he formed in the Army. Veterans Day holds deep meaning for him, especially now as he proudly shares his military service with his son, also an Army veteran. His message to his colleagues is simple, "On top of developing leadership, loyalty, and calmness under pressure (and the willingness to learn whatever is in front of them), the Armed Forces have cutting-edge technologies and the opportunity to get very good at working with people, processes, and technologies. If I could advise anyone hiring anywhere within TFG, deeply consider hiring that veteran!”
