Chemence's tagline, “Creating Bonds That Last,” signaled the specialty chemicals company’s fresh start. And with SSOE’s help, they designed a workplace aligned with their new branding. Their CEO James Cooke acquired a 28,000 SF facility in Alpharetta, Georgia, designated for their new headquarters and R&D facility. This strategic move aims to bolster Chemence’s growth in the U.S., stemming from their strong beginnings across the pond. Inspired by his wife’s SSOE-designed office, Cooke envisioned a workplace energetically embodying innovation and transformation in healthcare. So, we set off to provide engineering and interior design for Chemence, leading to another renovation project for their nearby manufacturing office and warehouse. This new facility design includes open community spaces, centrally located offices, meeting rooms, and a relocated testing lab, all maximizing connection to daylight as well as lasting connections through collaboration. #SSOEsoutheast

Peek into the job-shadow experience at SSOE! Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting Trystan from the Linworth Experiential High School Program for a week of shadowing at our Columbus, Ohio office. Trystan dove into various disciplines like civil, electrical, and structural engineering, as well as architecture and project management. Trystan is the son of Packaging Engineer Christopher Steinway, who was happy to have him aboard for the five-day stretch. While family affairs like Trystan’s are quite rare for our job shadows, our dedication to STEM education remains steadfast as we provide students with priceless real-world insights to prepare for their futures. #SSOEmidwest #chooseSSOE
Pizza for a purpose. Our Toledo office’s Employee Club teamed up with local members of The Interfaith Alliance Employee Resource Group at SSOE to make a difference for The Daughter Project, a nonprofit rescuing children and women from sex trafficking. Our pizza lunch fundraiser was a hit, raising $475 and collecting a mountain of supplies picked up by The Daughter Project’s founder (and area math teacher) Jeff Wilbarger, who expressed heartfelt gratitude. The Interfaith Alliance, a voluntary employee-led group at SSOE, is about uniting individuals across various religious, faith-based, and spiritual backgrounds to promote understanding, education, and inclusivity without bias toward any single belief system. #SSOEcares
SSOE's Clem Wood, a semiconductor industry mainstay since the late 1980s, and Mark Smith, who was at the center of the dot-com bubble in the 1990s—moving from Michigan to California during the semiconductor chip boom, will both be at the inaugural SEMI EXPO Heartland in Indianapolis this week. Clem, quoted within, has planned layout evaluations including utility and space planning needs for countless fab expansions and has been instrumental in the design of more than 5,000 First-of-a-Kind tools. Both will represent our firm at Booth #600, alongside our co-exhibitors Team Industries, Inc., Ihara Science USA, and SemiTorr Group. Dreams need support to soar! This Women’s History Month, Process Engineer Gabrielle Michel and Director of Project Technology Lauren Collier inspired middle school girls to reach for the stars at The University of Toledo College of Engineering's Introduce a Girl to Engineering Program event. Both Gabrielle and Lauren are founding members of SWAN, which stands for the SSOE Women and Allies Network, one of our voluntary Employee Resource Groups—established in 2023. Since 2018, we’ve proudly participated in this event, running interactive activities like this year's water treatment project. Roughly 800 girls from 15 school districts tackled SSOE’s real-world engineering simulation and honed project management skills vital to engineering success. #WomensHistoryMonth #SSOEcares

We support NSBE chapters across the U.S. and were thrilled to once again sponsor and attend the Annual Convention where education meets opportunity, this time in Chicago. Foundational success: SSOE’s Robin Whitney recently graced the “In the Arena" podcast, branded as conversations of a lifetime and leadership focused, where she shares insights from her monumental career—both physically and figuratively with the structures she’s helped create and impact she’s made. Robin’s conversation with host Brad Rieger, who shares Robin’s strong Toledo presence as well as a seat on the University of Toledo Foundation Board, resonates both locally and globally. Together, they explore her career as a civil engineer turned business leader responsible for growth and strategic planning, now the Chief Administrative Officer at our firm.
