Assistant Audit Manager

Job Summary

We are seeking a professional and driven Assistant Audit Manager to join our client-facing audit and advisory team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing audit engagements, supervising audit staff, maintaining strong client relationships, and ensuring that audits are completed efficiently, accurately, and in accordance with applicable standards and deadlines.

The role requires strong technical knowledge, leadership abilities, and excellent client service skills within a fast-paced professional services environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage, and execute external audit engagements for a portfolio of clients across various industries.
  • Review audit working papers, financial statements, and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable auditing standards, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise, mentor, and review the work of audit trainees and junior staff.
  • Manage audit timelines, budgets, and deliverables effectively.
  • Liaise directly with clients regarding audit queries, findings, and information requests.
  • Identify audit risks and propose practical solutions and recommendations.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of annual financial statements.
  • Ensure quality control procedures and firm methodologies are adhered to.
  • Provide on-the-job training and technical guidance to team members.
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with clients.
  • Assist Audit Managers and Directors with reporting, planning, and business development initiatives.
  • Participate in internal firm projects and process improvements where required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Completed SAICA articles.
  • CA(SA) qualification or eligible for registration preferred.
  • Minimum 2–4 years post-articles audit experience, preferably within an audit or accounting firm.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS, IFRS for SMEs, ISA, and Companies Act requirements.
  • Experience managing audit engagements and supervising staff.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and audit software such as CaseWare.
