Avantages

Capable Canadian management, Great team environment, little to no politics, interesting and varied work from multiple clients in various industries, Good RRSP matching.

Inconvénients

Lots of useless meetings and corporate fluff, parking at SD1 Calgary is limited during boom times, intranet and internet is 19th century speeds. Benefits provider is Sunlife and their plans are confusing and generally pretty awful compared to others. No work culture outside of the family friendly picnic style events they hold. US management and offices are out of touch with modern tech-forward business. EVERYTHING is workshare, and the amount is increasing constantly. We will see how that faires with the recently heralded lump sum work.

Avantages

Good for starting and ending a career in engineering — solid training and plenty of software available. Good benefits and WLB.

Inconvénients

Most projects are PreFEED, so lots of generic work, and they tend to overhire for these projects. It’s hard to make it to the middle ranks here because of the overhiring and layoff on contract loss cycle. The 980 schedule is actually meant to be a 10-hr day, as they began to emphasize the importance of taking lunch. TOWP and sick days are lumped together and earned on an accrued basis, so vacation days are valuable in the beginning. You can be paid your vacation days at the end, too, when your salary is higher… the consequence is that people come in sick all the time.
