Fairly normal competancy based interview asking questions to ascertain my ability to perform the job then asking for specific examples of how I demonstrated key skills and behaviors in past situations and how I would approach new ones.

Probably one of the most awful, degrading, and dehumanizing interview experiences I have ever gone through. Miscommunication from left and right, the team was absolutely rude and dismissive the entire process. Recruiter was unresponsive from the get go and never followed up with timelines or gave me any expectations on what to expect for the process. Received a three part assessment with unclear instructions that said you can present your solutions using whatever creative liberties, only to be told during my interview that I should have provided code. Suggestion, if you want people to provide certain files or show you specific things, use definitive statements and tell them what you're looking for if you know what you're looking for, why make people guess. In person interview was a mess, showed up to front desk and tried to sign in only to be told I wasn't approved on the list and was told to contact my unresponsive recruiter. Called her and she didn't even apologize for not having me on the list. She came down to get me and made some snarky comment about it being lunch time and catching them at a busy time, on top of that, didn't even know how many people I would be interviewing with when I asked her how the process would go. Interview panel, two people were late (including the director who left ten minutes into my panel). All they did was read questions off of their printed word document and didn't engage with my answers or my presentation of the three part assessment they wanted me to do. End of interview comes interviewer is too lazy to wait for elevator and insists on walking down the stairs, doesn't give me a handshake or greet me goodbye, I have to be the one to do it. Fine if you don't think someone is a fit for your role or you don't like them, but at least be better at faking it or have the decency to deny them upfront. No amount of money offered is worth going through a process with people and a company that doesn't respect your time or value as a candidate or bare minimum, as a human being. Do better.

I applied online, received an automated email that my application was submitted, and going through a review process. Someone from the team randomly reached out and tried to set up an interview. Next, I did an hour-long panel interview with the team. It's safe to say that there isn't much of design culture at American airlines. Neither do they have a formal design process set up within the team? The bar is pretty low—closely knit, opinionated, and haphazard process. I presented a couple of projects, the panel had questions, and they said they'd get back to me. After sending three follow-up emails and waiting for two months, I get an automated email saying I wasn't selected? To each of those who contribute as a "design team," stop wasting candidates' time and be respectful. Tips for the hiring managers and designers on the team - "Design culture" is formed by treating people with courtesy every step of the way. Throwing buzz words around doesn't mean you have an excellent culture. So please, value candidates because they put time and effort into the interviewing process. It's called "basic decency."
