J'ai passé un entretien chez Lidl

      Entretien

I arrived to be left in a distribution reception with empty water bottles on the floor. The sofa was dusty and I didn't sit down because it was so grubby. I had to buzz twice to ask if anybody was going to collect me and when the interviewer came down he ignored my offer of a hand shake and then proceeded to take me up the stairs 6 flights rather than take a lift. When arriving in the room I was given a bottle of water to drink - no glasses and I observed the interviewers looking at the next candidates details- clearly not interested in me really! Interview process was poor - the guy interviewing (would have been a peer) in L&D was constantly interrupting me and not letting me finish. I'm not sure what the plan was and why he felt he had to do this. He clearly had minimal knowledge of learning and development methodologies and this was evident when I had to keep explaining things - such as systematic training cycle and single and double loop learning. He didn't even know who Ulrich was when I spoke about HR Business Partnering. The Head of Admin who would have been my manager was a little more professional - but as a potential direct report I would have expected him to be leading the interview. As such he was very quiet! It was evident that the peer interviewing knew little about learning and development - his linked in profile states approx only 12 months, so my only conclusion was perhaps he felt intimidated that I had 16 years experience. No feedback as to why I wasn't suitable just a blanket email. As it was such a poor interview experience, I am not sure what value their feedback would be to me or other candidates. I was asked twice what material I could bring from my current employer and I politely skirted around - I am not sure this is a professional approach! When I asked twice whether it was competency based before the interview the resourcing guy said he didn't know!! Poor and unprofessional in my view. Interviewers need training on how to articulate questions and also to make an interview successful even even if they don't recruit the candidate. There is such a thing called brand! Sorry to say I wouldn't trust them training their staff - they appear to have no idea where to start. In fact I will be offering this feedback to the head of learning and development. Overall I think Lidl need to look carefully at their interview and recruitment process and as such, I would strongly recommend they don't ask candidates what they can "bring with them to help them along". That is immoral and unethical.
