I was brought in to interview for a program manager position during the covid period and was asked all sorts of inappropriate questions like ‘you’ve been out of work for a couple of months, you must be struggling to pay the rent?’. After that interview, suddenly they didn’t have a program manager role available but they had a project manager role, which was paying $20k less. I graciously stuffed down my pride and went through another 3 rounds of interviews for a lesser paying role. The interviews went really well and they said they wanted to bring me onboard, but suddenly the salary they were offering was another $20k less because someone else they were interviewing was at a more senior level than I was... what!?
I was able negotiate the salary back up to an acceptable level, but I am still yet to receive a formal offer, 9 weeks later!
