In the foundry industry, spent foundry sand is a significant byproduct. ⏳ After multiple recycling stages, its quality declines, making it unfit for high-quality castings. Grede is dedicated to repurposing this sand for various construction, agriculture, and geotechnical projects, reducing landfill waste. Here are some beneficial reuse projects that allow us to conserve resources, reduce costs, and support sustainability goals. Upcycling our spent sand is just one way we’re working to create a brighter, more sustainable future. ♻ #UpcyclingDay #BeneficialReuse #Recycle #CastingABrighterFuture
Meet two of our incredible engineers at Grede who are breaking barriers and shaping the future of engineering. 👩🔧👩💼 In this two-minute video, you'll hear from Pam Wervey from our St. Cloud, Minnesota plant and Heather Stanko from our Meadville, Pennsylvania plant. Listen to their inspiring stories and learn about their passion for engineering and the fantastic work they do every day. Join us on International Women in Engineering Day to recognize and celebrate the achievements of women engineers around the world. Let's continue to support and empower women in STEM. #INWED #WomenInEngineering #STEM #GredeEngineering #GrowWithGrede
This week for Safety Month, we’re focusing on risk reduction. At Grede, our STOP (Stop, Think, Observe, Plan) Observation program helps identify and address safety risks by engaging employees in conversations about safe behaviors. Managers and supervisors, trained every three years, complete at least one weekly observation. We document the results, review the trends, and communicate them to shape our safety strategies. In 2023, we completed 17,000 observations across Grede, showing our commitment to safety. #NationalSafetyMonth #NSM #RiskReduction #Safety, National Safety Council
Meet Chris Smith, our Pattern Shop Lead in Brewton, Alabama. Chris has been with Grede for almost 30 years. We love his positive attitude—he always has a smile on his face. We’re lucky to have him on the team! #EmployeeSpotlight #GoFurtherWithGrede
We’re highlighting a father and son duo here at Grede. Doug Wollny, Blast Department Lead, has been working at our plant in Browntown, WI, for 31 years, and his son, Ryan Wollny, Blast Operator, has been with us for one year. When we asked Doug to describe what’s special about Grede, he said, “Every day at Grede is different. I enjoy the ability to change things up every day. The job doesn’t get boring or repetitive. I work with exceptional people and enjoy training my son on the blast techniques of each machine. I’m particularly proud of the work that went into upgrading the blast machines. We both chose to work at Grede because it’s close to home, the wages are competitive, and the people are fantastic. We enjoy driving into work together and seeing each other at work each day.” We have a significant workforce of employees who have been with Grede for 30+ years, including several who have family members here. We have the best team and are proud to spotlight them. #GrowWithGrede #UnitedGrede
CTO Susan Bear visited Capitol Hill as part of the American Foundry Society Government Affairs Fly-In to advocate for the well-being and livelihood of the foundry industry and Grede. They discussed fighting overregulation by the EPA, restoring a pro-growth tax code, combating trade cheats, fixing the broken permitting process, and modernizing America's workforce development system. Susan met with Senator Mike Braun for Indiana, the team of Senator Debbie Stabenow for Michigan, and House Representative Jack Bergman for Michigan, among others. It was a fantastic event! #MetalcastersWeek #GovernmentAffairs #WashingtonDC #GoFurtherWithGrede
This week’s topic for Safety Month is Roadway Safety. Although our team members don’t drive on the roadway at work, we have a powered industrial truck procedure to keep everyone safe on the dock in our shipping department. Truck drivers must secure their vehicles with a dock lock or wheel chock when backing into our loading dock. Most of our facilities use dock locks. Once the dock lock secures the truck in place: 🟢 A green light comes on in the loading dock, letting the forklift operator know it’s okay to load the truck. 🔴 The red light tells the forklift operator that the trailer isn’t locked in place, and they may not enter. A chain, gate, or other mechanism covers the opening and prevents dock departures when there isn't a dock lock. We inspect our loading docks regularly to ensure nothing spills or leaks from the trucks, protecting our environment. Safety is always #1 at Grede, and it’s everyone’s responsibility. #NationalSafetyMonth #SafetyIsPersonal #NSM #DockSafety #RoadwaySafety
Melting metal in a foundry is a highly energy‐intensive endeavor. Our commitment to reducing our energy consumption extends beyond lowering our environmental footprint; it also encompasses safeguarding our long‐term viability in an ever‐evolving business landscape. Gredes’ commitment to ENERGY STAR reflects our dedication to sustainable practices and environmental stewardship, which allows us to cast a brighter future. 💦🌳 #CastingABrighterFuture #Sustainability #EnergyEfficiency
Grede’s foundry in Browntown, Wisconsin, reduced its energy consumption by 19% last year, a significant achievement that was made possible by the collective effort of our dedicated team. ⚡ ⬇ 🍃 This was accomplished while still achieving the best molding performance in the plant's history! They accomplished this by pulling one of their holding furnaces out of production and reaping the benefits of lower energy usage. Their energy usage decreased by 20% the year before as well. This is a clear demonstration of our continuous improvement efforts and dedication to environmental sustainability. Energy conservation is at the core of our sustainability efforts as a foundry. Melting metals in a foundry is an energy-intensive operation. To conserve electricity, we implement energy-efficient technologies, optimize our processes, and invest in advanced control systems. We partner with ENERGY STAR in these efforts and are a proud recipient of the 2024 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award. Together, we're casting a brighter future. 😎🌤 #WorldEnvironmentDay #CastingABrighterFuture #Sustainability #EnergyEfficiency
June is National Safety Month, and we’re pleased to #GoGreenForSafety with the National Safety Council. At Grede, we’re proud of our safety culture, driven by our Safety Brigade teams. Grede’s ten plants have various safety teams, including EHS Steering Teams, Safety Committees, and Safety Ambassadors, pictured below. Together, these teams make up Grede’s Safety Brigade. Our Safety Brigade is making a difference. Grede’s man hours have increased, but our safety record keeps improving. For example, last year, we implemented a new safety glasses personal protection equipment (PPE) program and reduced eye safety incidents by 30%. Green means good! Our Safety Brigade members received matching green t-shirts with the Grede EHS logo on the front and the Safety Brigade logo on the back. 🟢👕 Thank you to our Safety Brigade for helping keep our team members safe. #NationalSafetyMonth #SafetyIsPersonal #SafetyBrigade #GoFurtherWithGrede
