Je travaille chez Collette à plein temps (Pendant plus de 5 ans)

    Avantages

Collette's culture is the best I've ever experienced! Everyone is friendly, willing to go the extra mile, and is really invested in its employees. It's difficult to feel included among 600 employees, but Collette really works to get to know each employee as a person rather than a number. I feel encouraged on most days. The benefits are outstanding-- when it comes to the total package (pay, health benefits, and time off) they take care of employees.

    Inconvénients

Like most businesses, company direction can change as a result of the numbers, which means being nimble and needing to adapt quickly.

Je travaille chez Collette à plein temps (Plus d'un an)

    Avantages

Great people, convenient commute off the highway, gym if you are allowed to use it...

    Inconvénients

Sad to say working here for the past 2 years has uncovered more negatives than positives...

Collette is supposed to be a family company but they only offer 4 weeks of maturnity where the pay is only 66% of your original pay.

The pay at this company in general is terrible...my entry level job pays as much as the 2x higher title at Collette.

That's if you're even able to get a salary position...I've found most are hourly, which is very sad.

    Conseils à la direction

Since this is a $300+ million/year "debt free" company how about spreading the baseline wealth across your employees.

    Avantages

Mostly people are nice- discounted trips.

    Inconvénients

low pay for all the hard work - some people who have been there forever and dont pull their weight dont get reprimanded and makes others work harder

Je travaille chez Collette à plein temps (Pendant plus de 8 ans)

    Avantages

The perks and benefits are great, including health benefits, paid volunteer time, travel opportunities, and more. It's a casual environment with the freedom to wear jeans, make a call or step out of the office if needed. If you work for the right supervisor, there are great opportunities for advancement (but work for the wrong supervisor and you'll go nowhere, no matter what).

    Inconvénients

Collette has a great vision of transparency and opportunity but unfortunately it hasn't filtered down to many managers and supervisors, who treat employees unfairly and don't allow them to reach their full potential. Salaries don't seem evenly distributed and there's always an excuse for why you're not getting a raise, even when the company profits are high. Employee referral program needs to be looked at. Fams are not guaranteed even though they're a selling point for recruiting.

    Conseils à la direction

Give employees the opportunity to review managers and learn where and why employees are disgruntled and leave.

Employee referrals are encouraged, so please follow up with employees' friends and relatives after they apply for a job. At least get back to them when they apply, and after they come in for multiple interviews, let them know if they're not getting the job, and why, instead of leaving them hanging for weeks (true story).

Revamp the fam policy because it's a major reason why many people work here and it's not possible for everyone to get on a fam every year, which is a real disappointment.

J'ai travaillé chez Collette en Contrat Permanent (Pendant plus de 5 ans)

    Avantages

When I first started at Collette I really loved my Job for the following reasons

    - Travel Perks (FAM Tours)
    - Work with Great People (lots of awesome people there still)
    - Nice vacation time
    - Felt like a person not a number (beginning years)

    Inconvénients

    Over the years times changed..

    -Got more Corporate feel now
    -Some management can be horrible
-Working over 75 hours a week at times and could not get management for extra help
-High turn over (never was like that when I first started)
-Promised higher pay never got it
-Way under paid for the position I was in and the hours I was putting in

    Conseils à la direction

Collette use to be an awesome place to work and I loved my job, however over the years times changed and felt less like a person there and more like a number. My work life balance during my later years was tough when systems got bigger but no extra staff to help. I was promised higher pay for the hours I was putting in and had HR involved but nothing ever came of it.. Management was horrible in some places and I was not a fan with some of the new ones that came in... The Sullivan family is very nice and I do like the CEO but not sure what happened in later years.. it seemed like he lost control of certain parts of the companyr. Favoritism was another issue also with certain management with employees. The CFO and Vice President of the company is very nice and loved talking/helping them with technology.

Je travaille chez Collette à plein temps (Pendant plus de 3 ans)

    Avantages

Collette employees operate as a team. When you have questions or need assistance, you will get answers and help. The company is open about its financials and goals. Management is approachable.
The company cares about their employees and the community, allowing paid volunteer hours. Some departments have flexibility to allow remote work. Travel benefits are frequent and do not use paid time off.

    Inconvénients

Salaries are not high. Some valuable employees were let go due to strategic realignment instead of transitioned into a new role. Parking is scarce.

    Conseils à la direction

Continue to ensure that new hires understand the company culture.

Je travaille chez Collette à plein temps

    Avantages

Working for a family owned company can be a great advantage. The benefits with Collette are very good, healthcare plan is good, 401k, vacation/sick time is plentiful, etc. Depending on your manager, they can be great at working with you in times of illness, family issues, etc. There are many team building activities for the HQ employees, great gym next door for employees as well! And of course the opportunities for travel.
In the sales side, the base is low but the opportunities for commission have always been very good, as have the cash incentive awards, although those have both decreased somewhat recently.

    Inconvénients

First let me note, that management reads this website. And after a few particular reviews last year they began "encouraging" certain employees to write "honest" reviews. So as always with everything online, they all should be taken with a grain of salt. I would encourage people to read them all, but to look for the bigger picture as well. What one person hates, another may find beneficial.
The cons for me are first, a lack of focus. Every year, there is a new "focus", a new idea, a new technology. How many times I have heard the phrase, "this is not going away, we will be doing this every week/month/year." And inevitably, a year later, that is no longer important and we have a new focus.
There has been a great deal of change within the company in the last several years, core values, the goals, etc. I think HR and some of the new executives were eager to prove themselves. They were pushing so hard to change, and they swung the pendulum way too far to the other side. I work in sales, and you cannot treat a sales force the way you treat an IT person or a Customer Service Associate. A sales person needs to be able to sell, they need sales training, product training, not training on emotional IQ or life goals.
The favoritism has always been an issue for this family owned company. Many thought it was coming to an end, but it now seems it's just a different set of people's favorites.
There is also a real lack of mobility on the sales side, in part created by the favorites issue. They tried to address this in the last year or so by creating new positions. It was however, all illusion. Before positions were even announced, they were destined for certain people. If people expressed interest and weren't the favorite, they were talked out of even applying. The lowest move was creating a "Senior" position and telling all the senior sales people they wouldn't want it because there was going to be no pay raise and it would take extra hours and time away from their territory. The positions were then awarded to a few folks we all expected, the majority were not even close to being senior, and were actually given a raise. Very insulting to the actual senior employees.

    Conseils à la direction

You shouldn't hire or promote people because you like them, they go to a church like you, or talk like you, or are your cheerleader. If you truly have confidence in your team, let all of them do their job and give them the tools and assistance when they need it. Some will fail, some will succeed. But give EVERYONE an equal chance to succeed and fail, not just the ones who flatter you.
The benefits and camaraderie among employees is what people love best about this company. We understand change is good and is necessary to stay current. But be careful about going after the wrong people for the wrong reasons. When you continue to unjustly go after certain employees, people see that. After a while those people will leave, and because of that camaraderie you created, they will follow each other, not Collette.
