A recruiter from Linkedin reached out to me and let me know that one of the hiring managers had stumbled upon my profile and wanted them to reach out. The initial screen was pretty straightforward -- recruiter didn't share a ton of details but it was a nice conversation. I then had a conversation with the aforementioned hiring manager. The conversation consisted of behavioral questions mostly and was a pretty cordial conversation overall. When we walked through my resume, the hiring manager quickly pointed out my handful of shorter stints at some companies I previously worked at. The hiring manager told me straight up that not many employers would give my resume a second look due to the shorter stints and they had wanted me to provide some "perfect" justification for that -- which is fair enough I guess, but they had reached out to me and not the other way around. How were they expecting anything different than what they can see on my resume? Ultimately, I tried to answer honestly and truthfully, but I guess the HM was looking for something specific that I'd say. I received a note that there was a lot of interest in the position and they were going in a different direction. Overall, the experience was straightforward and neutral, but I just wish my time wasn't wasted especially if they knew what they were looking for.
