Entretien
I was contacted by a recruiter and a phone screen was set up with a senior writer. I had prepared extensively, but she asked none of the questions almost experts say Amazon asked. I thought the interview could go either way, but did not think I was able to get across my experience in an effective way.

Question 1
A lot of “tell meabout a time.” The questions were always seemingly very similar. I was not asked about the 16 principles Amazon tells you to know inside and out.
Pretty standard big tech interview process without exercises. Four behavioral interviews, one bar raiser interview loop, and you submit a portfolio of writing work. If you don't have a portfolio, you complete writing tasks and submit them.

Entretien
I was referred by an AWS employee. The scheduling process was a nightmare. The actual interview took place over the phone with the manager and one other tech writer.
It was 90 minutes of unrelenting "Tell us about a time when ..." questions. Ninety minutes. Every single question I was asked began "Tell me about a time when ..." It was almost robotic.
An hour into it, I decided I was no longer interested in working on a team with such an unimaginative manager. Afterwards I googled "AWS job interview questions" and guess what came up? That's right, "Tell me about a time ..."
