I was approached via linked in by an internal recruiter. We discussed the role over phone and within a couple of days, I took the online assessment - essentially math, logical reasoning and work style tests. I passed the tests and was called in for an on-site interview in Richmond. All travel arrangements were handled by Capital One. The recruiting coordinator did a very good job of preparing me for the case and behavioral interviews and also with what to expect on the day of the interview.
My schedule consisted of four interviews of 45 mins each - two case and two behavioral. The behavioral interview consisted of three "tell me about a time when..." The case interviews were more quantitative than regular consulting interviews - mostly breakeven price and volume calculations. As you progress through the case, questions get tougher and require more thinking. Don't be surprised if you are asked to draw graphs. The cases are very thought provoking and enjoyable. Take time to think and think aloud.
There is a fifteen minute break after the first two interviews. After the four interviews, you get to lunch with some employees. On returning from lunch you are told whether you have any more interviews. In my case, I did have one more with an SVP. He was the head of the team that was doing interviews that day. This was a case interview.
By the time I reached the airport, I was informed that Capital One was going to move forward with my application and recommend me to hire. Now this is where Capital One differs from other companies. They hire on potential rather than past experience. So the interviews are generic and you do not recruit with a group per se. Having said that I think the interviews are conducted by groups that have vacancies and most likely you get hired in the group that interviewed you.
I then spoke with a Senior Director (who was present in one of my interviews) and he described an open role in his team. This was not an interview, rather a conversation to discuss role and judge interest.
I decided to accept my offer from Capital One, because I am impressed how well the entire recruiting process was executed. Very responsive people and very structure process.
