I recently interviewed for a 6-month fixed-term contract as an EMEA Payroll Specialist at Nvidia, and the experience was quite disappointing. The interview process spanned nearly three weeks, with the first interview on June 11 and the final stage on July 1.
The final interview was particularly frustrating. It was scheduled at 8 PM UK time to accommodate the newly appointed payroll director in the USA. During the interview, the Director asked very broad and hypothetical questions, none of which pertained to my actual experience or qualifications. It felt like a complete waste of time, as there was no effort to understand my background or skills relevant to the role.
To make matters worse, he had mentioned they would get back to me within a week with their decision. It's now been several weeks, and I have received no update whatsoever. This lack of communication is highly unprofessional, especially for a company as large and reputed as Nvidia.
Additionally, they emphasized the urgency of filling this position, yet the entire process dragged on for far too long. This contradicts their claim of needing someone urgently. It also became apparent that their payroll process is surprisingly manual and reliant on spreadsheets, despite having Workday as their HCM. This lack of investment and care for payroll operations is shocking for a company of Nvidia's size.
In my situation, I had recently been made redundant and was actively seeking employment. Fortunately, I was able to secure another more senior job, but had I waited for Nvidia's response that never came, I would have faced significant financial stress. Their failure to communicate could have had serious consequences for my livelihood, which is unacceptable.
Overall, this was a disappointing and unprofessional experience, and it significantly lowered my perception of Nvidia as an employer.
