Received an email from recruiter to schedule a 30 min business case study call after applying for the role. The call was with a senior DS and focused mainly on questions relating to the company and applying your technical skills in a hypothetical problem the company is facing. No personal introductions, straight to the case. It was essentially a filter round.
I unfortunately messed up my last answer (more on it below) and got rejected (after a week from the initial interview) but the next round would have been with a more senior member, likely DS manager. The round 1 was fairly easy as long as you:
1) Know the company and the industry they operate in very well.
2) Other than the obvious and general research for the company and role, I would say trying the product (if product based) beforehand is very beneficial.
3) For this interview, having the knowledge of basic stats/ML, data science pipeline and probability is sufficient. Nothing too fancy.
ChatGPT-ing the below questions will give you a good base to build off but to understand below questions you need to know the company and product well as mentioned above.
What data would we take from a potential customer who wants to opt for our services? Example given was a customer wanting to purchase a laptop from Best Buy (their partner store).
Tell me how you would go about using statistical/ML tools to evaluate customers (for pricing, selection, etc.), start by defining a predictor? (very open-ended)
(The only numerical question requiring Excel/Calculator) Finally, gave me a probability based, expected default rate question. The exact question was that the company has to calculate the expected default rate given the minimum return they look for is 15% over lease value. The given lease value was $1000, and the scaling factor (lease cost) was 60% of lease value. Another cost, the cost of service that the company bears is $50, which is taken from customer while making the deal. Now, to simplify there were only 2 possible outcomes mentioned which is full payment over 12 months or default before the payments start.
The interview: 30-minute case study with a Senior Data Scientist about Credit card profitability calculation, basic arithmetic. The math was straightforward, conversation was smooth, and the interviewer described additional interview rounds ahead.
But an automated Workday rejection arrived minutes after the interview ended. I suspected the interview was a formality to satisfy a PERM (green card) process for an existing employee, not a genuine hiring effort.

The first stage went well - statistics, analytics, and modeling type of questions. I asked for prior information before the interview though on what it would entail. the interviewer was nice and gave room for questions and time to figure out answers and I thought it went well only to receive an email "thanking me for going through their stages" when I I did just one alone.
