The initial HR phone interview was a very confusing experience. The interviewer talked fast and nonstop at me, I couldn’t even get in a response to indicate I was absorbing all that I was hearing. They told me they have a few assistant roles to fill at different experiece levels, talked about the company values, and covered their covid rules.
At the very end of our time, I was finally given an opportunity to speak when they asked about my salary, if I was okay with the covid protocols, and if I had any questions. Since I wasn’t asked any questions about my work history I offered an opportunity, “Is anything in my background you would like me to clarify or expand on?” I was was told no. I found that strange because isn't that the point of HR setting up an initial screening.
On salary, I asked for more clarity about the levels for each of the assistant role they are trying to fill, how they are different from the description listed, and which level am I being considered? This flustered the interviewer, they couldn’t tell me because they didn’t know. I found this strange too. I thought how can a candidate tell you what they think is a fair salary if the one interviewing you is unable to expand on the responsibilities for the different levels of roles they mentioned, and they don’t know the level I’m be considered.
This whole interaction explained why the interviewer was talking at me about the values and covid instead of having a discussion about the different roles and my background matches.
I’m disappointed the interviewer didn’t come prepared, and they didn’t follow up when they said they would. I spent days preparing for this call, I did all the proper interview follow up on my end, and I was excited since I want to work or a company that has shared values.
I expected better from an initial HR interview experience from Salesforce.
